Reasons For Accreditation

There are no Government issued licenses for vehicles at work. The law requires that each operator is given adequate training by their employer so that they become competent to operate the machinery which they use (Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations 1998; regulation 9).

The only code of practice for training plant machinery operators approved by the HSE is the publication L117 “Rider-operated Lift Trucks: Operator Training and Safe Use”.
The HSE do not have a code of practice for any other items of mobile plant. There is still a legal duty, however, for every employer to ensure that their employees are adequately trained to operate any piece of work equipment to a safe standard.

Accrediting Bodies

NPORS is one of the four founder members of the Accrediting Bodies Association for Workplace Transport which was officially approved by HSE Board in January 2013.
